Hello, Just wanted to say I received Velvet Cacoon CD and the Schrei aus Stein CD, thank you! I am really feeling their brand of shoegaze black metal. This whole style is very original IMHO, really something that people should do more of. Are there more bands that mix shoegaze and black metal? Thanks again for your quick service, reply if you can! -K. in Canada **** Hi K., There are only a few bands that tie together shoegaze and black metal, and neither band mentioned above do it. The tag "shoegaze" is often incorrectly applied, both by bands and by fans, to describe a newly emerging style of black metal that may mix in elements of post-rock music and/or fuzzed out, heavily distorted guitars (trademarks of the shoegaze genre). Three good examples of black metal that is genuinely "shoegazed" influenced are Alcest, Wrath of the Weak and Lonesummer (the latter currently resides within the colony of STS.). Otherwise, Velvet Cacoon was lumped in with this genre after their infamous "theft" of My Violent Ego music, and Schrei Aus Stein's debut is influenced by post-rock, but shows little to no similarities to actual "shoegaze" music. |
